{"id":10490,"date":"2024-12-11T17:18:21","date_gmt":"2024-12-11T14:18:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.physioartcenter.gr\/dance-and-physiotherapy\/"},"modified":"2025-05-07T12:02:53","modified_gmt":"2025-05-07T09:02:53","slug":"dance-and-physiotherapy","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.physioartcenter.gr\/en\/dance-and-physiotherapy\/","title":{"rendered":"Dance and Physiotherapy"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wpb-content-wrapper\"><p>[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221;]Harmonious movement and the perfection of the natural articulation of joints have, for many years now, been a focus of extensive research and study for us, and form the major objectives which we aim to achieve as a specialist physiotherapy studio.<\/p>\n<p>The sensitive nature of dance performers is as a whole an especially captivating area of study, and is one in which we are able to offer appropriately specialized therapies.<\/p>\n<p>Statistics from the Nureyev Foundation show that:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>90% of dancers suffer from creaking in their hip joints<\/li>\n<li>89% from bunions of the first metatarsophalangeal joint<\/li>\n<li>31% have or will suffer stress fractures<\/li>\n<li>17% of dancers over the age of 40 will suffer from arthritis<\/li>\n<li>15-20% have spondylolysis (damage to the spinal vertebrae)<\/li>\n<li>24% of (mainly female) dancers have scoliosis (abnormal curvature of the spine)<\/li>\n<li>49% of the problems dancers experience with their knee joints are related to the patella (knee cap).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=&#8221;10067&#8243; img_size=&#8221;full&#8221; css=&#8221;&#8221;][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221;]Following our studies and research, and the <strong>application over many years<\/strong> of the specialized kinsiotherapy techniques of the Trigger Point method as presented by Janet Travell &amp; David Simons, and Manual techniques for the pelvic bones, we have observed remarkable i<strong>mprovements with increased flexibility of muscles and range of motion<\/strong> of between 30% -100% within a minimal period of time in dancers, dance school students, and professional dancers, independent of age.<\/p>\n<p>The combination of the above techniques facilitates<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>significantly increased <strong>flexibility<\/strong>,<\/li>\n<li>significantly increased <strong>strength<\/strong>,<\/li>\n<li>significantly increased <strong>speed <\/strong>of muscle contraction,<\/li>\n<li>reduction of pain in muscles which have sustained injury in the past, such as strains and contusions of the adductor muscles of the hip and the tibial muscles<\/li>\n<li>improvement in the speed of movement, <strong>jumps <\/strong>and<strong> leg extensions<\/strong> of dance students and professional dancers.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=&#8221;10068&#8243; img_size=&#8221;full&#8221; css=&#8221;&#8221;][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221;]Strains (overuse syndrome) of the gastrocnemius (calf) muscles in professional dancers from choreographies in:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Classical ballet with repeated pointe work<\/li>\n<li>Flamenco<\/li>\n<li>Tap Dancing<\/li>\n<li>Tango<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Our physiotherapy studio is always on hand to help with dancer\u2019s problems, such as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Spinal disc problems (cervical syndrome-lumbago-sciatica)<\/li>\n<li>Strains of the quadriceps (thigh) muscles, adductor muscles, hamstring muscles and the gastrocnemius (calf) muscle<\/li>\n<li>Ankle sprains<\/li>\n<li>Stress fractures<\/li>\n<li>Bunions<\/li>\n<li>Fallen arches<\/li>\n<li>Cartilage injuries in the knee cap<\/li>\n<li>Genu recurvatum<\/li>\n<li>Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) and meniscus surgery rehabilitation<\/li>\n<li>Congenital hip dislocation<\/li>\n<li>Back and shoulder pain etc.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Application of the Manual Technique to the pelvis to restore the ischium to the correct position in a professional dancer<\/strong>[\/vc_column_text][vc_gallery type=&#8221;image_grid&#8221;
